Unfortunately, many refugees can’t go home and can’t safely stay in the country to which they have fled. We help these people relocate to a safe, new country, through resettlement or other legal pathways so that they can begin to rebuild their lives.
A complementary pathway is any legal pathway outside of traditional resettlement, through which refugees can permanently relocate to safety. We help refugees access complementary pathways like family reunification and labor mobility.
Together with our partners, RefugePoint is working to connect more refugees with safe, legal options by expanding resettlement and advancing complementary pathways. When people have access to resettlement and complementary pathways, they are less likely to risk their lives on dangerous onward journeys. Refugees who are offered opportunities to rebuild their lives in the US, Canada, and other countries not only find safety; they contribute their talent and skills and add tremendous cultural, economic, and social value to their new communities.
RefugePoint has long been a leader in refugee resettlement. In recent years, we have also developed new programs to help refugees find lasting solutions in safe, new countries through complementary pathways.
Many refugees are unable to return home or safely remain in the country to which they’ve fled (the host country). RefugePoint helps these refugees, especially those who live with particular vulnerabilities or face life-threatening situations, to permanently resettle to third countries where they can begin to rebuild their lives. We also promote equitable access to resettlement for refugees around the world, especially in host countries where there has been little to no access to resettlement in the past.
Refugees fleeing their home countries are often separated from family and loved ones along the way. Torn apart by war or persecution, many never reunite again. One of the ways that RefugePoint helps refugees to find lasting solutions is through family reunification, which helps separated refugees reunite with family members in third countries through legal immigration pathways.
One of the ways that RefugePoint helps refugees to find safety is through labor mobility—an immigration pathway through which refugees use their skills and experience to obtain jobs that allow them to relocate to third countries. Labor mobility puts refugees on a path to permanent residency that also offers a lasting solution to their displacement.

"Resettlement means so much to me. It will change my life, and my focus is on providing my children a better life and education."
Our goal is to increase the number of refugees who can access resettlement and other pathways to safety, and to increase equitable access by strengthening capacity in all refugee-hosting countries.
