RefugePoint Donor Privacy Notice

Last Updated: Oct 22, 2024

RefugePoint values our generous supporters and is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors. This Donor Privacy Notice describes how we handle your data when you make a donation. It expands on our Website Visitor Privacy Notice, which describes how RefugePoint handles personal information that we collect through our website https://www.refugepoint.org/ or through any other websites that we own or control, through relevant services or content we may provide to you, or other interactions with you (collectively, “Services”).

In addition to agreeing to our Terms of Use, you represent and warrant to RefugePoint that the donor information you provide is true and that you are authorized to use the applicable means of payment to make your donation. You agree that all donation payments are final and will not be refunded unless RefugePoint, in its sole discretion, agrees to issue a refund.

Personal Information we Collect

When you make a donation, we collect personal information such as your name, email address, billing address, phone number, the financial information needed to process the donation, and information about your donation, including the amount of your donation, date of donation, and donation method. Our third-party payment processors (such as Funraise, Stripe, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay or a similar service) will collect the financial information necessary to process your payments, including credit card numbers and billing information.

Our third-party payment processors will handle your payment information in accordance with their own privacy policy. RefugePoint does not have access to your full payment card information. We also do not retain payment information once processed nor do we save payment information in our donor database.

How We Use Personal Information

It is in our legitimate business interests to process your donation, and to otherwise provide, operate, and maintain and secure our Services. We use donor information to process your donation, and for other purposes such as issuing acknowledgment and receipts for donations, thanking and communicating with donors regarding their support, providing program updates, informing donors of new ways to support RefugePoint’s work, and tracking and analyzing donor data. We may also use donor information as described in the organization wide RefugePoint Privacy Policy.

We may identify you as a donor (including listing your name and giving level) in annual reports or annual tax returns, unless you have requested to donate anonymously. If you do not want to be recognized in a future annual report for your donation, please email giving@refugepoint.org.

However, please note that:

  • We do not sell or lease donor information in any form.
  • We do not send communications to our donors on behalf of other organizations.
  • We may use donor information to comply with rules and regulations governing IRS 501(c)(3) financial reporting, and reporting requirements related to specific grants and contributions made to RefugePoint.
  • We adhere to any donor requests for anonymity and only recognize donors by name in our annual report who have not requested anonymity. If you do not want to be recognized in a future annual report for your donation, please email giving@refugepoint.org.
