For most of her life, Bahati lived with uncertainty. Finding safety in Canada gave her the chance to begin again, reconnect with her sister, and imagine a future filled with possibility—but her story didn’t end there.
Your holiday gift helps make more new beginnings possible for refugee families. Give today and learn more about Bahati’s journey below.
Bahati was born in Rwanda just before the genocide forced her family to flee. After years of displacement across borders, they settled in Nairobi, hoping safety would come soon—but resettlement never materialized. Her parents focused on what they could: ensuring their children received an education and a chance at a better future.
That opportunity arrived many years later. Bahati relocated to Canada, where she reunited with her sister, restarted her nursing career, and slowly built the stability she had long hoped for. Then, in early 2025, a moment she’d dreamed of for more than a decade finally arrived: her parents and brothers joined them in Halifax, marking the beginning of a new chapter for their family.
Today, Bahati works at RefugePoint, helping ensure that refugee voices lead the programs and policies shaping their lives.
This holiday season, your support helps more refugee families find the safety, opportunity, and stability they deserve.
